JPPF celebrates 172nd Raising Day of J&K

JAMMU, Mar 16: Jammu Province People Forum (JPPF), an amalgam of more than 50 social, commercial and other organizations today celebrated 172nd Raising Day of the state of J&K.
In this connection, a simple function was organized near the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh, here near main Tawi bridge and rich tributes were paid to Maharaja Gulab Singh, the founder Maharaja of the State.
Pavitar Singh, president of JPPF, while talking to media persons told that March 16 is a very important day in the history of the Jammu and Kashmir but most of the public is not aware of this historic day. Therefore, JPPF has started celebrating this historic day for last 3-4 years to educate masses about the history of the State.
He further added that history of the State reveals that on June 17, 1822, Maharaja Gulab Singh Ji was declared as Raja of Jammu by Maharaja Ranjit Singh Ji after holding grand coronation function on the bank of river Chenab at Jia Pota Ghat Akhnoor.
The JPPF president appealed everyone to celebrate this historic day as foundation day in a big way so as to make coming generations aware of the historic fact. All educational institutions should also organize colourful events on this occasion and even the Government of J&K should issue orders to all educational and other organizations to celebrate this event in a big way.
The programme was witnessed prominently by Narayan Singh, Inderjit Khajuria, MS Katoch, Avinash Bhatia, Resham Singh, Prof OP Sharma, Balean Singh, PR Slathia, Kamla Sharma, Sunita Sharma, Ajit Singh, Kuldeep Sharma, Pawan Sharma, KB Jandial, Ved Praksh and Ved Gandotra.
