SRINAGAR, June 10: As a part of its new policy to encourage ‘vertical housing colonies’ in Srinagar city to prevent misuse of agriculture land, Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) today set-off its ambitious project of constructing around 600 flats at Bemina.
Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora laid the foundation of Gulposh Apartments at Bemina. In the first phase around three apartment blocks comprising 60 flats are to be constructed by SDA near JK Bank Bemina.
Legislator Irfan Ahmad Shah, Commissioner Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department, Jeet Lal Gupta and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
The project cost of the Gulposh Apartments is estimated to be Rs 20 crores and these flats will be completed in three years.
All the three blocks, with earthquake resistant super-structure, would be provided with elevator facilities having round-the-clock DG back-up and parking facility. With a floor area of around 930 feet, each flat will be of two bedroom capacity with two bathrooms, kitchen, drawing room, store-cum-servant room and four balconies. The flats would be handed-over to the prospective buyers in finished form.
In the second phase SDA would be constructing around 550 more flats – Shehjar Apartments – at Mini Housing Colony (opposite Hajj House) Bemina.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Jora assured full support to SDA in setting-off other innovative projects in both housing and commercial sectors in Srinagar to ensure planned development of such infrastructure on one hand and decongestion of the City’s core area on the other. He said besides the projects already set in motion, SDA would be asked to focus on macro projects that have been hanging fire for quite some time now. These include development of integrated satellite township at Rakh-e-Gund Akshah, development of housing/commercial centre at Railhead Nowgam and construction of conference centre/commercial complex as part of Sangarmaal Phase-II.
The Minister also assured speedy redressel of all the genuine demands of SDA employees including disposal of pending SRO-43 cases, convening of DPC and allotment of plots.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chairman SDA, Mohammad Shafi Rather said that SDA has embarked on the ambitious project of institutionalizing concept of flatted accommodation in Srinagar in view of not only the mounting land costs in the City, but also to prevent wanton misuse of agriculture land that is squeezing fast day by day in and around Srinagar.
Rather said SDA is also planning to construct conference hall and office spaces on the land available adjacent to existing Sangarmaal City Centre to cope up with the shortage of office spaces for various national and multi-national companies who want to have an address in this prime area.
