JAMMU, Feb 20: Joint Action committee J&K (General Category) ,JKGC and Aarakshan Virodhi Manch (AVM) jointly held a strong but peaceful protest here in Exhibition Ground today.
The protest was held under the leadership of Ved Praksh Sharma, president, Brahaman Sabha & convenor, JAC ,Madan Lal Narad, general secretary, AVM and Ram Pal Seth, president, AVM, against the ordinance introduced by State Government on the behest of BJP leaders and appeasement policy of Central Government advocating for reservation in promotions which is against the rule of law.
Ved Prakash Sharma, convenor, JAC strongly condemned the action of State SAC and termed it the murder of the rule of law. He said the Government has issued the Ordinance and sent it to the President of India through Union Cabinet to overrule the High Court Order of scrapping reservation in promotions without even taking note of the fact that the matter is pending before the Supreme Court of India and there is a “status quo” order in the matter.
They said moreover it was illegal and unconstitutional to grant reservation in promotions without following laid down law. The action of State Government presently under the President rule and Governor tantamount to murder of general category people. It is murder of merit and seniority, muzzling the right to equality and justice, they added.
They said the Ordinance under the President rule is non representative of the aspirations of the general masses and the hasty manner in which it has been introduced by unelected representatives speaks volumes about the partisan approach of the BJP’s State and Central leadership.
They said as far as State of Jammu and Kashmir is concerned the sovereignty of Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir which is guaranteed by Article 370 under the Constitution of India and this move is aimed at eroding the special status of the State of Jammu and Kashmir. “We shall fight tirelessly for the equality and justice”, they added.
