JAMMU, Oct 2: The World Habitat Day was celebrated today by Institution of Engineers (IoE), Local Centre at Channi Himmat, Jammu.
On the occasion, a seminar on the topic – “Housing Policies: Affordable Homes” was organized in which engineers and other dignitaries from different departments and organizations participated.
Dr Manmohan Singh, Managing Director, J&K Housing Board, was the chief guest and Ajay Gupta, FIE, Chairman, Jammu Local Centre, presided over the function.
During the seminar, six papers were presented on the topic by SC Thukral (FIE), PK Nanda (MIE), Vijay Kumar Sharma (MIE), Vinod Kumar (MIE), Ranjeev Sawhney (MIE) and Sunil Seth (MIE).
All the speakers stressed that scheme for housing should contribute to national socio economic development and achievement of sustainable development goals. They projected that the term housing affordability needs to be defined in relation to the income of the people and the policies for affordable houses for weaker section and low income group of the society need to be dealt on priority.
