Involve stakeholders in effective disaster management approach: Bukhari

SRINAGAR, Oct 25:  Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Syed Basharat Bukhari, today directed the officers to come up with a comprehensive disaster management plan with active inputs and suggestions from various experts of the field as well as stake holders.
The Minister was chairing a meeting convened to interact with the recent disaster management pass outs of the Kashmir University to discuss the various measures to be adopted for making a comprehensive disaster management plan and the necessary steps to be undertaken.
He asked the officers to explore the possibility of having disaster management as one of the subjects at college and school level so that effective human resource can be produced for tackling any eventuality. He said that by doing so we would also be creating the necessary awareness and also producing the professionals who would then effectively contribute in identifying the areas of concern and taking the necessary preventive measures.
Syed Basharat Bukhari also directed for taking the requisite measures for equipping the State Disaster Response Force with the latest equipments so that they can very effectively carry out the necessary response within the shortest possible time in case of any eventuality. He said the officers should also speed up the process of creating necessary infrastructural assets for setting up disaster management centres at Divisional and District levels.
The Minister also directed for undertaking necessary capacity building of the officers and other field staff associated with the disaster management so that they can be professionally equipped with necessary technical knowhow of dealing with any eventuality. He said that they should be sent to different centres in the country and also the possibility of improving IMPA in the same area should also be explored.
Financial Commissioner Relief & Rehabilitation B.B Vyas, Financial Commissioner Revenue Lokesh Jha, VC SDA Tehseen Mustafa, Deputy Commissioner Central FCR Ms Sunita Anand, MD JKPCC Dhilip Thusoo, Relief Commissioner Migrants and other senior officers, pass outs of the Disaster Management School University of Kashmir were present.
