RAMBAN, Nov 28: Carrying forward the drive against narcotic smuggling on the direction of IGP Jammu Zone Danish Rana, Chanderkote police today nabbed two intra-district narcotic smugglers along with poppy straw (bhukki) from Dalwas area.
As per police sources, on specific information, police team from Chanderkote police station laid a naka near Dalwas and asked two persons to stop for checking, as they were moving under suspicious circumstances.
On seeing police personnel, the persons tried to escape from the spot, but the cops chased and nabbed them near some distance from the naka point.
During checking, police recovered 5 kilograms of poppy straw (bhukki) and nabbed the narcotic smugglers, who have been identified as Surjeet Kumar, son of Budhi Singh of Chanderkote and Mohammad Ashraf, son of Saraj Din, a resident of Dalwas.
The accused were carrying the consignment and were about to deliver it among the youths to make them drug addicts, but their nefarious designs were foiled by Chanderkote police by arresting time.
During preliminary investigation, it came to fore that the accused used to purchase the poppy straw from the truck drivers and later sell it among the youths on exorbitant rates.
A case under FIR number 66/15 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the accused at Chanderkote police station and further investigation of the case is going on to trace the other persons engaged in this illegal business to make youth drug addicts.
Police team led by SHO Chanderkote police station Inspector Manzoor Ahmed Kohli made the arrest under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Ramban Rafiq Choudhary, Additional SP Arun Kumar Gupta and SSP Ramban Randeep Kumar.
