JAMMU, Mar 9: International Women’s Day celebrated with zeal and fervour.
To commemorate International Women’s Day, Mahila District Presidents of Mahila Congress took initiative about the awareness and importance of personal hygiene of a woman, in far flung areas of each districts of the State and also distributed the sanitary material for keeping proper hygiene of a female.
Vandana Makhnotra, Santosh Sharma, Sushma Choudhary, Geeta Dogra, Veena Kumari, Bhupinder Kour, Amna Kalyan and Narinder Kour organized camps in different places districts and explained women’s natural process of menstruation and associated hygiene.
Indu Pawar, President Pradesh Mahila Congress J&K presided over the seminar organised on the concluding day at Sainik Colony. She informed that on this day their national topic was women and menstrual hygiene.
To mark the International Women’s Day, the Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu in collaboration with ‘I Will Go Out’ and ‘One Billion Rising’ organised a group discussion on rampant ‘Sexual Harassment in Educational Institutes’ and ‘Child Sexual Abuse’ in the State here at the seminar hall of the department.
The discussion was presided over by Dr Kavita Suri, Director and Head, DLL, University of Jammu, while Aditi Pinto, Campaign Coordinator (OBR) and Manisha, Block Coordinator (Jagori) were also present on the occasion. Hafiza Muzaffer, Former Secretary, J&K State Women Commission, Dr Savita Nayar from Department of Law, Dr Pallavi Sachdeva and Dr Bharti Prabhakar, both DLL faculty members, Chitvan Wazir, well known women entrepreneur of J&K, students and members of the civil society also participated in the group discussion. The event was moderated by Tamana Slathia, National Coordinator of ‘I Will Go Out’.
International Women’s Day was celebrated at Tawi Technical Campus, in which a good number of boys and girls expressed their views. Prof BR Moza Special Secretary to the Chairman and Colonel Hari Singh Administrative officer distributed prizes to Shefali, Tania and Gautam, who emerged winners. Dr Rajat Arora, Dean Research, Er Pooja Kapoor, Dean Academics, Seema Yadav HOD Applied Sciences displayed audio visual clips highlighting the empowerment of women in different fields.
Army celebrated International Women’s Day at Naidkhai Army Camp in which more than 300 girls from various orphanages of districts, Bandipora, Srinagar, Kupwara and Baramulla participated.
An Army spokesman said that the day started with a symposium on the theme “Empowerment of Women” followed by a counselling session, a qawali performance by the Pune based NGO Borderless World Foundation, various games, a small documentary on Malala Yousafzai, felicitation of outstanding women and gifts presentation to orphanages girls, who participated in the event. The event culminated with a motivational talk by renowned Bollywood star Haider and Bajrangi Bhaijaan famed veteran theatre artist Bhavani Bashir Yasir.
International Women’s Day was celebrated by NABARD at Samba, in which around 250 women SHG members and rural entrepreneurs promoted under NABARD’s SHG-Bank Linkage programme participated. The programme was inaugurated by Sheetal Nanda, DDC and Vijay Kumar, Chief General Manager of NABARD. Suresh Chand, General Manager of NABARD was also present on the occasion. Sheetal Nanda also inaugurated a Skill Development Programme for Self Help Group members for undertaking uniform stitching. The women members presented a number of cultural items during the programme. The play “Naari to Narayani” on women empowerment was presented by the members of New Sargam Social and Culture Club.
Micro Finance and Financial Inclusion Department of J&K Grameen Bank in collaboration with NABARD organized Village Level Programme on International Women’s Day at village Badhanoo, Tehsil Kalakote, District Rajouri. Des Raj, DDM Rajouri, NABARD, was the chief guest, while District Co-ordinator Leader Bindu Bala was the guest of honour. RK Narang, Regional Manager Rajouri, J&K Grameen Bank, Vikram Singh, Branch Head Dharamsal and many others were present on the occasion.
JAKFAS artists Suresh Sharma, Virji Virendra Sumbli and Darshan Singh created big sand sculpture under the Tawi bridge of Gujjar Nagar on the eve of International Women’s Day. This sand sculpture on Women’s Day was a tribute to first women sculptor of J&K Late Govind Kour.
Women Development Cell of Govt College of Education, Jammu organised International Women’s Day here the other day. Principal of the College, Prof Jugal Puri was the chief guest while Dr Raj Singh (Coordinator B.Ed) was the guest of honour.
The programme commenced with key note address by Prof Jyoti Parihar on the issues on women and development. The speakers spoke on diverse issue related to women affairs. A colorful cultural programme was also presented by the students of the college. Prof Ashu Jolly presented the vote of thanks.
Inner Wheel Club Jammu also organized a function at Jammu Club in connection with the International Women’s Day. On this occasion, Principal, Govt Women College Prade, Dr Hemla Aggarwal and Dr Kiran Sharma from Police Hospital, Jammu were honoured for their distinguished services.
