Industries Secy, VC CUJ call on Governor

JAMMU, Dec 18: Shailendra Kumar, Commissioner Secretary Industries and Commerce Department today called on Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today and briefed him about issues relating to the functioning of the Craft Development Institute.
Governor advised Kumar to see that the working of this important institution was fully established in the next few weeks and its affiliation to the University of Kashmir be settled without any delay.
Kumar also informed Governor about important initiatives taken in regard to industrial promotion, enhancing entrepreneurial environment and advancing the growth of cottage and village industries and the handicrafts and the handloom sector.
Governor stressed the importance of every possible effort being made to secure balanced growth of the State through sustainable utilization of all available natural resources in the State.
Prof. Ashok Aima, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Jammu, also called on Governor and informed him that 15 Departments of the University have been shifted to its permanent campus at Bagla village, Raya Suchani and presently  the University is offering 35 academic programmes; till date 18 national and 4 international MoUs have been signed with different Universities and organizations, of which 13 have been operationalized; 77 % and 78 % teaching and non teaching positions, respectively, have been filled; and there are 46 ongoing research projects in the University.
He further informed that University will be hosting Vice Chancellor’s Conference in February 2018; organizing the University’s first Convocation early next year and hosting Executive Programme for training IAS officers in collaboration with ASCI, Hyderabad, in January 2018.
Governor emphasised the need to ensure the establishment of essential facilities in the University’s own Campus on the soonest possible basis, filling up faculty positions with the best qualified academics and making sustained endeavours for achieving very high standards in teaching, research and extra-curricular activities.
