Indian Thermodynamics Society conference begins at JU

JAMMU, Dec 2: The inaugural function of  Two-day 11th national conference of the Indian Thermodynamics Society (ITS), on the topic “Advances in Chemical Sciences and Thermodynamics”, began here today at University of Jammu.
Being organized by the Department of Chemistry, JU, the  conference was formally inaugurated by  the Vice-Chancellor Prof  R  D  Sharma,  in the presence of Prof  D  V  S  Jain, president, ITS;  Prof  T  S  Banipal, Secretary, ITS and   Prof  Rajni Dhingra, Dean Faculty of Sciences, JU. Dr Ram Vishwakarma, Director, IIIM Jammu, delivered the keynote address while Prof Meena Sharma was Organizing Secretary of the Conference and Prof S K Pandey, HOD Chemistry, was Convener of the ITS-2016.
Prof R D Sharma, in his presidential address, said that Chemistry plays a major role in our day-today lives, especially pharmacy. He underlined the need to strengthen the teaching of chemistry at under-graduate level. He hoped that the senior scientists taking part in the meet shall inspire the young scientists.
Prof D V S Jain threw light on the laws and facts of thermodynamics in day today life. He said that interactions like the ITS meet shall inspire the young scientists to achieve excellence.
Prof Rajni Dhingra highlighted the various initiatives undertaken by JU and efforts of the Department of Chemistry in bringing NAAC A+ accreditation as well as getting Rs  16.50 crores under DST-PURSE Program to the University.
Prof S K Pandey said that ITS meet shall give a platform to the chemists of the region to showcase their research.
Prof  C  P  Basin from  HNGU Gujarat, Prof  R  D. Kaushik from  GKU Haridwar, Dr  Versha Parcha from  SBPGIBSR, Dehradun, Prof  R  K  Soni from  CCSU Meerut, Dr  Renu Chadha from  PU Chandigarh and  Dr  Ramdass Gardass from  IIT Madras, delivered the invited talks.
Nisha Choudhary conducted proceedings of the function and Prof Meena Sharma presented formal vote of thanks.
More than 250 delegates, academicians, scientists and researchers of various Universities, Colleges, Research Institutes and industries from outside and within the State participated and presented their research work in oral/Poster form.
