IAF conducts evacuation of French nationals from Leh

NEW DELHI: The India Air Force on Friday conducted evacuation to transfer the two French nationals to Delhi.

Both foreigners Bresson Florance and her husband Christophe met with an accident near Leh in which Florance was critically injured. The IAF move comes after the request from the French Embassy at New Delhi for immediate request to evacuate the patient to Chandigarh or Delhi.

The Air force launched a C-17 aircraft, on a routine sortie, from Chandigarh that landed at Leh with  the Patient Transfer Unit (a mobile ICU in itself) to which Florance was transferred. Simultaneously a  C-130 Hercules aircraft which was launched from Hindon and reached Leh and took off with the patient accompanied by her husband and other medicare personnel.

“The evacuation of the casualty was successfully completed at 0925 hrs when the IAF transport aircraft  landed at Palam with the patient. She was then transferred to a specialised hospital at New Delhi,” an IAF statement said. The Bresson Florence and her husband Christophe were on a road trip at Leh, on motorcycles when the accident occured.
