High density plantation will be game changer for State’s economy: Veeri

Shopian, Nov 3: Minister for Public Works and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri, today termed the plantation of high density apple plants as a game changer in the economy of the State.
Veeri said this while speaking at the review meeting of District Development Board Shopian. The meeting was attended by Legislators Aijaz Ahmed Mir and Mohammad Yousuf Bhat.
Among others the meeting was also attended by Deputy Development Commissioner Shopian GM Dar, Chief Engineer R&B, Chief Engineer PMGSY, Director School Education, Director Agriculture, Director Sericulture, Deputy Director Tourism, Deputy Director Health and various other officers.
While saying that horticulture is the main contributor of state economy, Veeri said that compared to conventional apple plantation where there is no fruit for first 5-6 years, the farmer earns more than 50 lakhs per hectare with the plantation of high density.
He asked the officers to start awareness cum training camps regarding benefits of high density plantation in the district and directed them to speed up the demarcation process for setting up of Fruit Mandi Shopian.
During the meeting, the Minister said that creation of Flood Control Division and Mechanical Division is under active consideration of the Government. He directed the authorities of Health Department to provide ambulances to the PHC Vehil and Nadigam.
While reviewing the progress of  developmental works, the Minister was informed that the  construction work of Women’s College Shopian, Degree College Zainapora and Keller will be soon worked out.
The Minister also sought detailed report on the construction status of circular road from Shirmal to Narwaw via Pinjura-Arshipora-Palpora and Shirmal Bridge to Hirpora Via Diagam Nagbal. He directed the Chief Engineer R&B to release the land compensation in favour of owners from Bonabazar to Habdipora road Shopian.
Calling on the officials to strengthen the primary health care in the Shopian town, Veeri stressed that manpower and machinery of state of art should be set up in Shopian hospital.  The meeting was also informed about the status of construction of the lift irrigation scheme at Kral Teng Wachi.
The Minister also asked the officers to speed the process of Dubjan water scheme which will cater drinking water supply to the 104 villages of Shopian. Veeri asked the officers to keep future requirements in mind while formulating the water supply scheme projects in the district.
MLA Wachi, sought the report about the status of work of  Aghlar Shopian via Turkawagam road, Shopian-Bijbhehra via Zainapora road, construction Dakbuglow, transfer of Sericulture land to higher secondary school Zainapora, and regular water and power supply in the area.
