Heroic reception accorded to Ladakh based Indian Women Ice Hockey team

LEH, Mar 19: Heroic reception was accorded to Asia Challenge Cup Women Ice Hockey Team India on their arrival in Leh today.
Hill Council Chairman, Councillors, religious heads, women organizations and relatives and well wishers of players reached at the KBR Airport to receive the jubilant players and offered them Khataks to welcome them.
Representing India at the Asia Challenge Cup Ice Hockey Tournament played at Bangkok from March 7 to March 15, 2017, the Indian women team players (all from Ladakh) stood on fourth position, winning two matches out of six.
As many as seven Countries which included UAE, Philippine, Malaysia, New Zealand, Thailand, Singapore and India participated in the tournament. The Indian team beat Malaysia and Philippine during the tournament and Tsewang Chuskit from Tangtse village was adjudged as most valuable player of the tournament while Diskit Chonzom Angmo was awarded as best player of the Indian team.
Speaking to the media persons, LAHDC Chief Executive Councillor, Dr Sonam Dawa expressed his delight over the team’s performance at International platform and said that the local players without much support managed to claim fourth position, while representing India and he assured Hill Council best support in future to groom the girls.
He also promised to complete the Ice hockey rink on time to enable them to practice well and informed that he had taken the issue with Central Government to support such sportspersons in future.
Executive Councillor Tsering Wangdus, nominated Councillors venerable Sonam Chospel, Tangtse Councillors Tashi Namgyal and other prominent were also present to receive the players.
Ladakh Buddhist Association President Tsewang Dolma, Anjuman Moin-Ul-Islam President Asha Malo and Women Alliance Ladakh President Morup Dolma were also present at the Airport to welcome women stars.
They said that these women players not only made Ladakh region proud but the entire women fraternity by winning two matches at International level to set an example.
Jubilant Team Captain Rinchen Dolma said that this time their performance were better than the last year’s one, adding that J&K State Sports Council had sanctioned them Rs.7 lakh financial assistance for the completion of Ice Hockey Rink in Leh and hoped for improved performance in the game in future.
Another player of the Indian team Noor Jahaan also praised team’s performance.
It is pertinent to mention here that these women player playing for different clubs in Leh formed Ladakh Women’s Ice Hockey Foundation (LWIHF) in 2015 to promote and provide platform for women players of Ladakh.
