Handmade textile showroom ‘Lehvallee’ opened at Leh

LEH, May 24: Setting an example of young entrepreneurship, Kunzes Angmo, an aspiring social entrepreneur, passionate in bringing the unique textile craft of Ladakh to a wider market, opened a handmade textile showroom ‘Lehvallee’ at Leh.
Kunzes Angmo studied inorganic chemistry from Delhi University, and is now actively involved in developing Lehvallee project. Her creation and creative skill is often reflected in the brands collections. The showroom “Lehvallee” was formally opened in presence of her sister Judge Spalzes Angmo and district officers from allied departments.
Lehvallee born out of a deep desire to make a positive contribution to the society and to address the issues of design, development and production of high quality handmade shawls, fabrics and accessories, using natural and sustainable noble fibers produced in Ladakh. This initiative is also aimed at supporting women, employment, innovation and economic development of Ladakh.
While maintaining a healthy and sustainable society, preserving the environment, ethical trade and responsible production of the natural resources available here, it shall strive to create more jobs, support more families, and invest in research, design and development.
The young entrepreneur is committed to work in close collaboration with local authorities, concerned organizations and growers to preserve sustainable production of cashmere, Yak and natural fibres, produced in the region, and economic development of Ladakh. Lehvallee consist of two units – a design studio, located at Chemdey Labrang Complex in Leh, and main production unit located in Choglamsar.
Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Dr Mohd Iqbal, said that such kind of initiatives will encourage other young entrepreneur, as most of local produced raw material fails to make end product here, thus not fetching the desired price but industry like this making value addition to the raw material is a good beginning.
District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Dr Niyaz and District Panchayat Officer Zakir Hussain were also present on the occasion.
