Govt fails to tackle drought situation in Kandi: Ex-DyCM

JAMMU, Apr 7: Former Dy Chief Minister and senior Congress leader, Tara Chand has expressed serious concern over the acute drought situation in the entire Kandi belt and failure of the state authorities to release water in the new Pratap Canal, as a result the people are facing great hardships.
Addressing a public meeting at Khour area today, Congress leader asked the Government to take timely steps and put into action the contingency plan to meet the drought situations especially the drinking water shortage in most parts. He said that Government should press into services various measures including maintaining proper water  supply schemes besides taking urgent measures of tankers and tractor- trolley supplies to different areas. He demanded proper assessment and surveys in this regard on war footing, as people are facing great hardships in most parts of Kandi areas of Jammu.
Tara Chand also expressed his concern over the deplorable condition of different roads in the constituency due to non-maintenance of these road links and demanded proper repair work of the same.
He lashed out at the Government for its failure to take follow up steps regarding the regularization of casual, need bases and CP workers in PHE, Irrigation, Flood Control and various other departments and failure of the Government to address the issues of agitating Anganwadi workers, ad hoc/contractual lecturers and various other categories of the employees protesting on roads for their genuine demands.
Senior Congress leader flayed BJP led Centre Government and State Government for their policies towards deprived and oppressed sections of the society and their total failure to protect their rights and dignity. The people will teach a lesson to these parties for their wrong policies, he added.
