JAMMU, Mar 17: Governor Satya Pal Malik inaugurated the 31st Jammu & Kashmir Police Public Mela at Police Sports Stadium, Gulshan Ground, here today.
Dr. Rubinder Kour, Chairperson, Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association, lady members of the Association, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, Shri Kewal Kumar Sharma, K Skandan Advisors to the Governor, and Dilbag Singh, Director General of Police, were among those present on the occasion.
Governor lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the commencement of the Police-Public Mela. He paid floral tributes to the jawans and officers of J&K Police who laid down their lives while performing their duties. Click here to watch video
Governor, along with other dignitaries, went around the stalls put up in the Mela and showed keen interest in the exhibited goods. He interacted with the stall holders and appreciated the quality of products put on display.
He was briefed by Dr. Rubinder Kour about the aims and objectives of the Mela and about the activities of the Organization which are aimed at securing the welfare of police personnel and their families, with special attention to widows and orphans.
Governor was presented memento by Dr. Rubinder Kour, Chairperson PWWA.
A very large number of people from all walks of life attended the Mela and showed great enthusiasm in purchasing goods on sale, eating food of various kind which was being served at the Mela.
Students from J&K Police Public Schools and artists from various cultural organisations presented scintillating cultural items on the occasion.
Among others, the inaugural function was attended by a sizeable number of senior serving and retired civil and police officers.
In the evening, the raffle draw was held in which 7847 prizes were announced which included 21 cars and other high end gifts.
Advisor to Governor K Skandan, Director General of Police, Dilbag Singh, Ninette Vas Sharma, Dr Rubinder Kaur, Chairperson PWWA, a galaxy of police officers and PWWA members was present on the occasion.
The first prize of Rs 12000 and certificate was given to Police Welfare Center, Jammu, 2nd prize of Rs 10,000 and certificate to Police Welfare Center, Srinagar, third prize of Rs 8000 was given to Prisons Department.
Consolation prizes of Rs 5000 each were given to PWWA Boutique, Police Welfare Center Kathua, district Anantnag and district Poonch. Prizes for best sale throughout the year were given to Police Welfare Center Kathua and Kulgam. The best worker prizes were given to HC Prabh Dayal and HC Zahoor Ahmed, while best worker from martyr family was given to Suriya Rasheed, daughter of martyr Constable Abdul Rashid.

Earlier, prizes were distributed among the winners of Healthy Baby Competition and Painting Competition by Chairperson PWWA. The show was organized by PWWA at SDRF 2nd Bn. Gulshan Ground on February 09, 2019 as a part of the Mela.
