Governing Council for SMVD Gurukul takes decisions for future growth of institution

KATRA, Feb 20: The 25th meeting of the Governing Council (GC) for Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul, Charan Paduka, Katra, was held at the Spiritual Growth Centre here today in which a number of important decisions were taken for the future growth of this institution as a centre of excellence.
Dr Ashok Bhan, Member of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, chaired the meeting, which was attended by Simrandeep Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board; Vivek Verma, Additional CEO; Prof Yugal Kishore Mishra; Prof Vishwamurti Shastri; Dr Arvind Karwani, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board and Administrator of Gurukul; Gopal Dass Sharma, Head Pujari, Bhawan; and Dr Devendra Rijal, Vice Principal of the Gurukul.
Dr Bhan and other Members of the Governing Council expressed satisfaction at the functioning of the Gurukul and emphasised the need for making continuing endeavours to develop it as a centre of excellence. The meeting also noted the outstanding achievements of the students of the Gurukul in academics and co-curricular activities every year besides at the various state and national level competitions.
In this context, the Governing Council congratulated five students of this Gurukul, namely Gotam Sharma, Ankit Sharma, Udhit Narayan Jasyal, Shubam Sharma, Anish Sharma, Madhav Sharma, who brought laurels to the Gurukul.
The GC decided to take up the matter with the Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya for issuance of Shastri Degree in bilingual language i.e. Sanskrit and English. It was also decided that possibilities will be explored for organising short-term capsule courses in Yoga and Karam Kand etc, for the Shastri Part-III students of the Gurukul to enhance their employability. In this context, Dr Bhan emphasised the need for reviewing the progress in regard to organising of functional courses for the Gurukul students periodically so that they are in better stead vis-à-vis career prospects. He also suggested for arranging educational tours for the students of the Gurukul to various places of spiritual, educational, cultural and historical interest as also facilitating their participation in various workshops.
The meeting, interalia, took stock of the functioning of the two Smart Classrooms which have been made functional at the Gurukul recently.
The Vice Principal of Gurukul apprised that presently 162 students are studying from class 6th to Shastri Class Part-II in this fully residential institution which was established by the Shrine Board in 2010.
