NEW DELHI, Sept 28: The Centre will offer a course for ‘sanitary supervisors’ at its ‘Garib Nawaz’ skill development centres.
Making the announcement here today, Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said the course will help create job opportunities for the youth belonging to poor sections of minority communities and also strengthen the ‘Clean India campaign’.
“The ministry will start the course in Garib Nawaz centres being established across the country,” Naqvi said, as he took part in the on-going ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ campaign.
The course will include training for cleaning work with latest technology and machines and preparing compost from garbage.
The ‘Garib Nawaz’ centres are being set up with an aim to provide job-oriented skill development training to the youth belonging to minority communities.
The Union Minority Affairs Ministry plans to set up 100 such centres across the country.
During the programme, Naqvi hailed the ‘Clean India’ mission as a “success”, claiming that cleanliness was no more just a habit, but had become a passion for people.
“The common people, particularly the youth, have become more attentive towards cleanliness. It has turned into a people’s movement now,” he said.
Naqvi said the government had constructed over three crore toilets across India since the mission was launched in 2014.
On its part, the ministry has been constructing toilets in a large number of madrasas and other institutions to link them with the cleanliness campaign, the Union minister said.
“The ‘sanitary supervisors’ can play an important role in maintenance of these toilets,” he said.
The ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ drive was launched by President Ram Nath Kovind on September 15 and will continue till October 2, the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation — Mahatma Gandhi. (PTI)
