Ganga directs SICOP to put in strenuous efforts to support SSI units

JAMMU, Dec 18: The 87th Board of Directors meeting of JK Small Scale Industries Development Corporation Ltd. (SICOP) was held under the chairmanship of Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chander Prakash Ganga, here today.
Minister of State for Indu-stries & Commerce, Farooq Ahmed Andrabi, Vice Chair-man SICOP Ali Mohammad Mir and Commissioner Secre-tary Industries & Commerce Department, Shailendra Kumar attended the meeting.
Managing Director, SICOP R L Tickoo gave a brief description of the activities undertaken by the Corporation besides achievements made in facilitating hassle free services to small sector in the State.
Various agenda points were deliberated upon besides a general view of the functioning of Corporation was also taken up in the meeting.
It was informed in the meeting that SICOP has achieved a turnover of Rs 518.87 crore upto November 2017 against a target of Rs 755.00 crore during the financial year 2017-18. It was further informed that annual turnover of the Corporation in respect of marketing, raw material and other activities has also increased manifold.
Ganga directed the SICOP management to put in strenuous efforts to support the SSI units of the State which is the primary activity of the Corporation.
Emphasizing upon the need to boost employment in small scale industrial sector, Ganga directed management of SICOP to redouble their efforts to assist the SSI units in all the potential areas.
Regarding establishment of Data Centre of Industries & Commerce which has been established and maintained by JK SICOP, the Minister said that this Data Centre will not only cater to IT based services to the Industries & Commerce Department but other Govern-ment agencies as well.
Director Industries & Commerce Jammu, Director Industries & Commerce Kash-mir, Directors on BoD SICOP, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Rakesh Gupta, Lalit Mahajan, besides representatives from Finance and Planning Depart-ment and officers from Industries & Commerce Department & JK SICOP also present in the meeting.
Meanwhile, 154th meeting of Board of Directors of Jammu and Kashmir Industries Ltd. (JKI) was held under the chairmanship of Minister for Industries and Commerce Chander Parkash Ganga.
Minister of State for Industries and Commerce Syed Farooq Ahmad Andrabi, Vice-Chairman JKI, Gulzar Ahmad Dar, Principal Secretary Planning Department, Rohit Kansal, Commissioner Secr-etary Industries and Commerce Department Shailendra Kumar, Managing Director JKI, Javid Iqbal, Board members besides representatives of Planning and Finance departments were present in the meeting.
The BoD took a comprehensive review of the overall working of the Corporation and sought details on the projects undertaken by the JKI and the achievements made so far in turning it into self reliant commercial unit.
The Board accorded its approval for implementation of several projects which include establishment of silk factory at Jammu, re-commissioning of Kashmir filatures and spinning plants at Solina Srinagar, establishment of new filature unit at Jammu.
The Board further approved establishment/modernization of Joinery Mills at Bari Brahmans Jammu on the same lines as has already been done in case of Government Joinery Mills Pampore. These projects will involve an investment of Rs. 43.20 crore.
To ensure stable and effective marketing of products, the Minister directed to establish showrooms at new Jammu Airport, Katra and Banihal railway stations besides the places which have extensive foot-fall of pilgrims. He also stressed for using e-Commerce platform for sale of products.
