JAMMU, Dec 24: CPI (M) leader and MLA Mohd Yusuf Tarigami has urged the Government to regularize the services of staff working under Centrally sponsored scheme ‘Saakshar Bharat Mission’ (SBM) and hike their salary without any further delay.
Unfortunately, despite repeated pleas by the SBM staff, their genuine demands have been ignored by the Government, he said in a statement, issued here today.
Hundreds of SBM staff were appointed under the Centrally sponsored scheme at different levels, and they have been performing their duties with dedication. They are qualified and have good skills and are well experienced. Their services were also utilized in various other activities like election duty and other sectors.
Tarigami said that under SBM, the employees working in different capacities like District Coordinators, Block Coordinators and Panchayat Coordinators have crossed the maximum age limit and their services are yet to be regularized.
“The Government without any further delay must revise the salary/honorariums of SBM staff, set up Adult Education Centres (AECs) and teacher training for them,” he stressed. The SBM is a Centrally sponsored scheme of the Department of School Education and Literacy, Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), which was launched in September 2009 with special emphasis on functional literacy to adults, especially women folk who have lost their education options due to one or other.
