JAMMU, Apr 15: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Summit Nayyar seeking security of court complex, advocates and litigants, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice Baddar Durez Ahmed and Justice Alok Aradhe has directed that entire periphery of the High Court should be under CCTV surveillance.
After hearing Senior Advocate Sunil Sethi with Advocate Summit Nayyar appearing for the PIL whereas Senior AAG Wasim Sadiq Nargal appearing for the State, DB impleaded Chief Engineer PWD as party respondent and Senior AAG Seema Shekhar accepted notice on behalf of newly added respondent.
At this stage, the counsel appearing for the State submitted that a comprehensive action plan to revamp the security measures and infrastructure in the High Court premises and the District Court premises at Jammu shall be filed within two weeks.
“The comprehensive plan shall clearly indicate the time line within which the requisite action shall be taken”, the DB said, adding “entire periphery of the High Court should be under CCTV surveillance and adequate number of CCTVs having high resolution should be provided”.
“Apart from this, it is also necessary to X-ray the baggage/bastas in the District Court complex. This may also be provided in the action plan. It has also been felt that the lawyers/advocates may be issued security ID cards so that there are no miscreants impersonating as lawyers, who may enter the premises”, the DB said, adding “the comprehensive report shall be placed before court in a sealed cover”.
