Encounter in Pulwama: 2 militants killed, two jawans martyred

SRINAGAR: Two militants were killed and two jawans martyred in a fierce encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Tuesday morning, official sources said.
One jawan was wounded in the incident.
Meanwhile, authorities suspended mobile internet service in Pulwama and train service in south Kashmir.
They said troops of Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police, Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and CRPF launched a joint search operation at 0300 hrs at Ratnipora in Pulwama following a tip-off about the presence of militants.
Security forces cordoned off entire area and sealed all exit points to prevent militants to escape. However, with the first light this morning encounter ensued when security forces marched towards the particular area in the village.
Three soldiers were injured in the initial firing by the militants who tried to escape and later entered a house and a school building.
The injured were rushed to a hospital where two of them succumbed to their wounds. Another injured has been referred to 92 Base hospital. The martyred soldiers were identified as Naik Saneed and Sepoy Baljeet Singh while hawaldar Chander Pal is injured.
Both the holed up militants were killed. One of the slain militant was identified as Hilal Ahmad.
As a precautionary measure authorities suspended mobile internet service in Pulwama and train service between Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region for security reasons.
Meanwhile, clashes erupted in Ratnipora and adjoining areas.

Recently five militants of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) were killed in a fierce encounter in Kulgam district of south Kashmir.
