NEW DELHI, Mar 11: Recently inducted Jammu & Kashmir Minister for Education, Syed Altaf Bukhari, on his first visit to the Union Capital after taking over the current assignment, called on Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh and discussed a wide range of issues pertaining to the education scenario in the State and solicited Central assistance to carry forward some of the long pending plans for the upliftment of the education standards.
Dr Jitendra Singh congratulated him for having taken over the crucial responsibility of Education Department and said, the youth exodus happening from the State can be checked mainly through providing facilities for quality education and secondly, by generating employability through vocational education. He said, with a little innovation and pragmatic approach, a lot of difference can be made and this is borne out by his experience in the Northeast where conditions are equally difficult, but, of late, a headway has been made.
Assuring Bukhari of all possible assistance from the Government of India, Dr Jitendra Singh said, he will take up with the Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar, issues pertaining to pending education grants and approval for new colleges. He also discussed with Bukhari the grievances of ReT (Rehbar-e-Taleem) Teachers and hoped that the issue would be dealt with a human consideration. He said, the students and youth of Jammu & Kashmir are second to none in caliber and diligence, and therefore, if provided proper direction and opportunity, they can excel their peers from any part of the country.
Altaf Bukhari listed out some of the issues calling for urgent attention and informed Dr Jitendra Singh that during his stay in the union capital, along with his team of officers, all these issues had been taken up with the Union HRD Ministry and requested Dr Singh to kindly help in the follow-up. He also expressed the desire to take up some more issues pertaining to the Department during his next visit to the union capital, which he was possibly planning sometime in the next week.
