JAMMU, June 22: Jammu Paryatan Vikas Mandal and All Jammu Hotels & Lodges Association both the tourism trade bodies have expressed concern about the miserable plight of Jammu Tourism Projects and have blamed the State Government for its utter failure to complete the ongoing or pipeline projects launched for making Jammu as an independent tourist destination in view of the fact that none of these projects could see light of the day during the past many years.
In a joint statement Chairman Paryatan Vikas Mandal Inderjeet Khajuria termed the inordinate delay caused in completion as a serious lapse and disappointing as the ongoing tourism projects are either stalled or running on snail’s pace. These projects are required to be completed on war footing if Jammu is to be made an independent tourist destination. These projects whether online or pipeline can be distinguished into three different categories for their early and time bound completion. The projects where the work is stalled for want of funds, ii) projects where the funds are available but work not started and iii) projects where funds are available but work going on snail’s pace. He appealed the Govt to provide sufficient funds for the completion of stalled projects, besides provide men and material round the clock in the projects where funds are available and finally accelerate speed in the projects where working is going on snail’s pace despite availability of funds.
While stating the brief description of ongoing Tourism Projects Pawan Gupta, president All Jammu Hotels & Lodges Association referred to Jammu Ropeway Project which was to be completed within 30 months has crossed time limit in view of the public resentment on changing the nomenclature to Shahbad as the tenders did not materialize so far. Pillars are still to be constructed in Tawi bed and in view of coming rainy season it has to be constructed on war footing. Similarly Artificial Lake Project on Tawi River is 80 % complete but for construction of diversion channels for 17 side nallas. An amount of Rs 70 crore has already been spent on this prestigious project. Similar is the fate of other projects of immense importance.
