LOS ANGELES, Aug 1: Up and coming Dutch actor Marwan Kenzari has booked leads in two major indie movies, Terry George’s “The Promise” and Tommy Wirkola’s “What Happened to Monday”.
Christian Bale and Oscar Isaac are starring in “Promise”, a period drama set in the final days of the Ottoman Empire, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The script, written by George and Robin Swicord, centers on a love triangle with a medical student, an American journalist based in Paris and a beautiful and sophisticated woman.
Kenzari has a strong supporting role opposite Bale and Isaac as the son of a diplomat in Turkey, helping them both avoid war when the Turkey-Armenian conflict erupts.
Mike Medavoy is producing along with Eric Esrailian, Ralph Winter and William Horberg.
“Monday” is the speculative sci-fi thriller set in of an overpopulated world with a mandated one-child policy that stars Noomi Rapace and Glenn Close. The story tells of septuplet sisters who stay hidden and take turns assuming the identity of one person.
Kenzari will play the role of a bureau agent conflicted between his assignment and his love for to Rapace’s character.
The rising actor will shoot the movies back-to-back this fall.
Kenzari appears in MGM and Paramount’s “Ben-Hur”, the historical epic directed by Timur Bekmambetov. He is also slated to appear in “Autobahn” with Nicholas Hoult, Felicity Jones and Anthony Hopkins, although the release of that movie is now flux due to the bankruptcy filing of Relativity, the film’s distributor.
Kenzari made an international breakthrough with the Dutch crime thriller “Wolf”, which earned him a Golden Calf for best actor award in the Netherlands. (PTI)
