NEW DELHI, Jan 14: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh hosted a luncheon interaction for a group of school children from Sikkim.
All the children, in the age group of 6 to 16 years, were on their first-ever visit to Delhi and seemed highly excited to be in the national capital.
Dr Jitendra Singh spent over one-and-a-half hour in an informal interaction with the students. He answered their queries and also engaged himself in lively conversation with them.
Dr Jitendra Singh brought to the notice of the children that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who had facilitated the first-ever airport at Pakyong, over 40 years after Sikkim became a part of India. He also shared with them the Modi Government’s plan to extend railway network in the State.
The children, in their interaction, came forward with several frank and innocent observations, based on their experiences in Delhi. Most of them said that they missed the clean, fresh environment of Sikkim which was absolutely free of the pollution that they had experienced in Delhi. But, at the same time, all the children were extremely excited by their visits to various historic monuments of Delhi as well as landmarks of contemporary India like Rashtrapati Bhawan and Parliament House.
Dr Jitendra Singh suggested to them to also visit the venues of student interest, including National Physical Laboratory (NPL) and the Hall of Nuclear Power at Pragati Maidan.
The Minister appreciated the initiative of Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) for having arranged this education tour from a remote far-flung State of Sikkim.
