JAMMU, Apr 26: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North-Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances,Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh has announced a new training programme of skill development for the youth in his Parliamentary Constituency of Udhampur-Kathua-Doda.
The first phase of the programme, he said, will be launched shortly from Kathua and the experiment will then be replicated in other five districts of the constituency as well.
Giving details, Dr Jitendra Singh said, over 1000 students will be enrolled for a 4-week period during which training will be imparted in the areas of survey mapping, digitalization of records and information technology. After the successful completion of course, the candidates will be provided a certificate duly authenticated by the office of the Surveyor General of India, he added.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said, this will be a new experiment of its kind in a far-flung State like Jammu & Kashmir and will not only provide vocational coaching, but will also improve employability of the youth by adding special skill profile to their existing educational qualification. The focus on training the youth to become surveyors is also inspired by the fact that this is one field in which very few youth have entered in the preceding years, as a result of which several projects in the country are suffering due to lack of trained professional surveyors, he observed.
The training for each youth, Dr Jitendra Singh said, for a period of one month will involve a budget of about Rs.50,000 each, out of which a maximum of only Rs.10,000 to Rs 15,000 each may have to be paid as one-time fee by the individual student, while the rest of the amount for each trainee student would be borne from his MPLAD fund or other sources.
He further informed that, to begin with, the course will be undertaken in collaboration with the “Survey of India” by “Ideal Institute of Technology, Ghaziabad” which has appointed a young entrepreneur Vaibhav Mittal to coordinate the programme and another young entrepreneur Kuldeep Singh Raja has offered to provide logistic support.
