JAMMU, June 27: Doda migrants today held a protest in the office complex of Relief Commissioner’s office (Migrant) at Canal Road, Jammu, demanding early implementation of Central Government’s orders to grant migrant status to Doda migrants at par with Kashmiri migrants.
A large number of Doda migrants participated in the protest under the leadership of Suraj Rana. The protesting people raised slogans against the Relief Commissioner (M) for not implementing the Central Government’s order issued on 18-11-2015 regarding grant of Migrant status to Doda migrants at par with Kashmiri migrants.
The protesting migrants criticized the authorities for not providing migrant quarters to the deserving Doda migrants, who have been staying in rented accommodations since the date of their migration from Doda to Jammu.
They said that verification of about 450 families of Doda migrants has been completed in all respects but they were not yet registered as migrants and provided all such facilities as have been provided to the Kashmiri migrants.
Alleging that the some agents in Relief Commissioner (M) office are demanding huge amount from the aggrieved migrants for consideration of their cases, they said that such elements in the organization should be identified and thrown out so that the relief organization may function smoothly.
The protesting migrants appealed the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to intervene into the matter and directed Relief Commissioner (M) to implement the Central Government order regarding Migrant status to Doda migrants, in letter and spirit.
