SRINAGAR, Nov 13: The Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) has decided to renovate and revive the ladies-special Library-cum-Reading Room at Maharaja Hari Singh Zanana Park near Civil Secretariat here.
On the directions of the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, Director Information & PR, Muneer-ul-Islam visited the Library today to take stock of the existing infrastructure there as also review the requirement for new infrastructure to make the facility fully functional. He was accompanied by Joint Director Information Jammu, Manisha Sareen, Joint Director Information Headquarters, Abdul Majid Zargar and other officers of the department.
Expressing dismay over the dilapidated condition of the building housing the Library, the Director Information said that the Public Works Department would be requested to formulate DPR for the renovation of the building and creating additional space to make it a fully functional Library-cum-Reading Room for ladies.
He said the DIPR has over the past few years embarked, in a big way, on creating infrastructure. “While state-of-the-art auditoriums have already been made functional at the Media Complexes in Jammu and Srinagar, the department is now in the process of setting up latest audio-visual units and Library-cum-Reading Rooms in the twin capital cities,” he said and added that the department is also in the process creating new facilities for the journalists and media students in the State.
