JAMMU, Mar 11: Boosting up his campaign to aware the common populace about the incidence of cardiovascular diseases Dr. Sushil Sharma, HoD Cardiology, GMC Jammu and his team today held a day long camp at Gurudwara Singh Sabha, Model Town Gangyal area of Jammu.
More than 250 people were screened and advised during the camp. Clinical and lab evaluation like ECG, Blood sugar and Lipid Evaluation were done and free medicines were distributed as per the requirement.
While interacting with the people, Dr Sushil stated that diet is an important risk factor in coronary heart disease. “Diet is one of the key things you can change that will impact all other cardiovascular risk factors. The calories from fat should be no more than 25 percent to 35 percent of your daily calorie intake. If you eat a 2,000 calorie diet, you should eat no more than 65 grams of fat per day. Saturated fat should be no more than 5 percent to 6 percent of total calories.Trans fat is artificially-produced fat that adds hydrogen to liquid vegetable oils to make them more solid, often known as partially-hydrogenated oils. They are often used to deep-fry foods. Because they have a negative effect on cholesterol and raise the risk of heart disease and stroke, it is best to eliminate them from your diet,” he added.
He asserted that recent studies suggested that higher intakes of the most common saturated fats lauric acid, myristic acid, palmitic acid, and stearic acid were associated with a boost in the risk of coronary artery disease of up to 18%. “But replacing just 1% of those fats with the same amount of calories from polyunsaturated fats, whole grains, or plant proteins was associated with a 6% to 8% lower risk. It’s the overall pattern of our choices that counts.”
Other who were instrumental in this endeavour included Dr Anitipal Singh, Dr Chakshu Mahajan  and Dr Parvinder Kour. Paramedics and Volunteers who were part of the team included Vikas Kumar, Kamal Sharma, Raghav Rajput, Gourav Heera, Bhanu Pratap Singh, Akshay Kumar, Amandeep Singh , Nitish Gupta, Ravinder Singh, Gourav Sharma, Jagdeep Singh and Raj Kumar.
