LEH, Nov 28: The residents from Deskit Tsal area of Leh today held strong protest against the dumping of  garbage in their locality by the concerned authorities.
The people under the banner of Deskit Tsal Welfare Committee led by Numbardar Stanzin Jugnais and Councillor P. Wangdan Shunu took out a strong and peaceful  protest rally in Leh today.
Holding banners and placards in hands,  the people were raising slogans against the Municipal authorities  and demanding shifting of dumping site to some other suitable location. The protest rally was attended by 23 Numbardars (Gobas) and the local  residents.
The large rally commenced from Deskit Tsal Community Hall and after passing through various city localities reached Council Secretariat where they submitted a memorandum to Hill Council Chairman, Dr Sonam Dawa. The protesters alleged that garbage collected from Changthang, Nobra and other tourist places is brought to Leh to dump at Bumb Guard in Deskit Tsal area causing lots of problems to the residents especially during summers.
Raising slogans against Municipal Committee, the protesters alleged that wastes such as toilet waste (manures), hospital waste and other wastes are dumped at Bumb Guard in open area.   The resident also complained about burning of garbage in the dumping site causing lots of pollution in the area. They also requested the chairman to relocate the slaughter house from Bumb Guard.
After listening to them patiently, Dr Dawa informed the protesters that administration is already in process of installing solid waste management plant and construction work has been already allotted. He assured that no waste will be dumped at the present site Bumb Guard from April ending onwards.
He also assured to make garbage disposal at block level so that garbage from other regions of Leh district can be segregated at block level. He assured them to relocate the slaughter house to some other places shortly.
