DB’s directive on Rly Stn modernization

JAMMU, Sept 11: In the much publicized Public Interest Litigation seeking modernization of  Jammu Tawi Railway Station, the Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Virender Singh and Justice Muzaffar Hussain today granted two weeks time to the respondents for filing latest status report on the steps taken for acquisition of land for shifting of three oil depots.
After hearing battery of lawyers, the DB granted two weeks time to AAG H A Siddiqui to file status report of Collector Samba with regard to acquisition of land for shifting of oil depots.
In the PIL filed by Citizen Forum through its president R K Chadha, it has been submitted that Jammu Railway Station requires modernization as number of tourists and pilgrims arriving by train has increased manifold but the infrastructure continues to be inadequate.
“It is the duty of the Railways to install escalator and provide modern facilities to the passengers. The Railway authorities are under obligation to provide better bogies to the passengers, beautify the surroundings of the Railway Station and make sitting arrangement for the passengers outside the station.
