DB seeks compliance report within week

JAMMU, Sept 1: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Bar Association Jammu and Sumit Nayyar seeking various developmental activities around court complex, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Virender Singh and Justice Tashi Rabstan today directed the State to file compliance report regarding release of Rs one crore for the construction of lawyers’ chambers.
When the PIL came-up for hearing, Division Bench observed, “besides other issues highlighted in PIL which includes availability of the parking space within the court complex, it was suggested that electronic sensitive identity cards may be issued to the lawyers so that they could enter into the court premises without undergoing any security check whereas all others should be subjected to security check at the entry point”.
“Earlier this court had directed Inspector General of Police Security to examine the suggestion of providing electronic sensitive identity cards and submit his report indicating the modalities involved and steps required to be taken in this regard. Inspector General of Police was also directed to propose the steps to be taken for improving overall security of the District Court Complex including setting up of Security Check Point(s) at the main entrance of the District Court complex”, the DB said.
With regard to construction of lawyers’ chambers, Division Bench observed, “with regard to release of Rs one crore to JKPCC, the executing agency constructing the lawyers’ chambers, at Jammu Wing, Senior AAG Gagan Basotra states that, in fact, the copy of the order dated 13.08.2014 has been supplied to him last week only by the Registry and he has sent the same to the concerned department for compliance”.
After hearing Senior Advocate Sunil Sethi with Advocate Ankesh Chandel, Advocate Sindhu Sharma and Advocate Ranjit Singh Jamwal for the PIL whereas Senior AAG Gagan Basotra for the State and Senior Advocate AV Gupta with Advocate Aditya Gupta for the High Court, DB granted one week’s time to the State for filing compliance report regarding release of Rs one crore for the construction of lawyers’ chambers.
