JAMMU, July 27: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by young lawyer Irtiza Mushtaq highlighting dilapidated condition of Amphalla-New Plot-Janipur road, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Sanjeev Kumar today issued notices to Commissioner/ Secretary, PWD, Chief Engineer PWD Jammu and CEO ERA returnable within four weeks.
In the PIL, lackadaisical approach of the respondents towards dilapidated condition of Ambphalla-New Plot-Janipur road leading to the J&K High Court has been highlighted. “This is the only approach road from BC Road towards Janipur and the same is in dilapidated condition because of digging by the respondents and other Governmental agencies”, the petitioner said, adding “the road is having numerous potholes and debris lying throughout which is causing inconvenience to the public”.
“Moreover, there is air and environmental pollution due to emanating of dust from the debris lying on the road. The entire legal fraternity including the Judges of the State High Court and Subordinate Courts utilize this road for reaching the courts but the present condition of the road presents a very dismal picture”, the petitioner said, adding “similar is the fate of several other city roads which are crying for macadamization and it has become a routine for the authorities to go for digging after every 3 to 4 months in the name of sewerage or other works but after digging, the roads are left in the same condition”.
After hearing Advocates Arshad Majid Malik and Rahul Raina for the PIL, the DB issued notice to Commissioner/ Secretary, PWD, Chief Engineer, PWD (R&B) Jammu and CEO ERA returnable within four weeks.
