DB grants time to file status report on Vridh Ashram

JAMMU, May 6: Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Mohd Yaqoob Mir and Justice D S Thakur today granted time to the State to file status report and objections in a PIL relating to the plight of Vridh Ashram, Jammu.
The article on plight of Jammu Vridh Ashram published in EXCELSIOR on February 26, 2013 was treated as PIL on the application submitted to the Chief Justice by founder-cum-organiser of Viklang Chhatra Trust.
When the PIL came up for hearing, the DB observed that status report has not been filed and directed the Senior Additional Advocate General to file the status report and objections before May 20, 2013.
It is worthwhile to mention here that on April 9, 2013 Division Bench had arrayed State through Chief Secretary, Commissioner Secretary Social Welfare Department, Commissioner Secretary Health and Medical Education Department and Director Health Services as party respondents and directed to file present status and also an affidavit to the effect that what steps have been taken by the Government in order to safeguard the interests of the inmates of Vridh Ashram–Home for Aged and Infirm at Ambphalla, particularly with regard to their right to health and dignity.
The DB had also directed Director Health Services, Jammu to constitute a team of doctors which will visit Vridh Ashram to enquire about the health conditions of the inmates. Even the Advocate General had also been directed to file the status of such homes in State.
