JAMMU, Aug 30: Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar and Justice BS Walia has granted last opportunity to State and Press Council of India to file response within two weeks in the much highlighted Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding separatist leader Masarat Alam.
When the matter came up, senior counsel S S Lehar assisted by Advocate Aditya Sharma argued that within a day’s time media had made Masarat Alam from unknown individual to the leader of the separatists. It was further argued that only 100 people had gathered in some corner of the valley and raised anti-national slogans and waved Pakistani flags but it was the media which publicised the matter in such a way as if the whole valley is anti-national.
He stressed that Press Council of India shall take necessary steps so that such news items are not aired in future and shall not be publicized at all.
