Curfew was imposed in Tral, the native town of Wani, in Pulwama district as a precautionary measure to maintain peace and prevent congregation of people at the residence and grave of Wani.
The town was sealed two days ago so as to prevent any congregation and protests in the township on his first death anniversary. All roads leading to and from the township were barricaded and no movement of the vehicles or pedestrians was allowed. House of Wani was also sealed and no one was allowed to reach there.
However, groups of people tried to march towards Burhan Wani’s residence but security forces deployed in strength fired tear smoke to disperse them during which 9 persons were injured.
Separatist leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik-had asked the people to march to Tral on the first death anniversary of Wani, who was killed in an encounter with security forces on this day last year.

The National Highway was closed for traffic today so no Amarnath Yatris were allowed to move to Kashmir from Jammu today and the train services between Baramulla and Banihal were also suspended for security reasons.
Protests were reported from Kulgam, Shopian, Padgampora, Pulwama and Tral today. A group of women carried out protest march in Shopian district of South Kashmir during which 9 women were injured as security forces fired tearsmoke.
