SRINAGAR: The cross-Line of Control (LoC) trade between Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan- occupied Kashmir (PoK) along the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad route has been suspended for a week, official sources said.

They said that the authorities from this side of the Line of Control (LoC) received a letter from the Pakistan officials informing that trade on Srinagar-Muzaffarabad route will remain suspended for this week.

They said no reason was given for the suspension of the cross-LoC trade, which takes place between Tuesday and Friday ever week, between traders from the state and PoK.

The suspension of the trade comes four days after 66.5 kg of heroin was recovered from a truck, which had come from PoK as a part of LoC trade. The truck driver, identified as Syed Yousuf, was arrested and is being questioned.

Meanwhile, the weekly cross-LoC bus service between Poonch in Jammu region and Rawalakote in PoK remained suspended for the third successive week yesterday due to high tension at the LoC.

However, 53 new guests from the PoK arrived here yesterday though no Kashmiri crossed over to the other side in Karvan-e-Aman bus, operating between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad.

In the past also, heroin and other drugs were recovered from the trucks from PoK, leading to suspension of trade for some time. The cross-LoC trade was started between J&K and PoK in 2008.

Recently, the National Investigation Team (NIT), which had registered a formal FIR in connection with terror funding in the Valley, has also started investigation into cross-LoC trade links. (AGENCIES)
