JAMMU, Feb 22: CPWD employees including Engi-neers, Architects, Horticult-urists, Draughtsmen, Office Staff and Stenographers held a mass rally today under the banner of Joint Front of CPWD Service Associations during lunch hour at CPWD Office Complex, Satwari, Jammu in protest against the recommendation made by Group of Secretaries to the Prime Minister of India to corporatize CPWD.
More than 120 employees of CPWD from different cadres attended the rally. The agitated members raised their voice expressing their anguish against the ill-advised and mischievous proposal without any basis which also smacks off a design by vested interest to annihilate CPWD.
It is pertinent to mention here that CPWD is 163 years old premier Government Department with about 40000 strength, giving services to various Central Government Departments. Corporatization of CPWD is neither in the interest of the department nor in the interest of the nation as public works execution is a measure of service to the nation/society and it cannot be left to profiteering by PSUs which otherwise also impose service charge ranging up to 7 to 10% which is a burden to the national exchequer and such additional expenditure can be better utilized through CPWD for more public services/amenities to the benefit of the society.
Meanwhile, a copy of representation addressed to M Venkaiah Naidu, Minister of Urban Development against the move was handed over to CPWD, Zonal Office, Satwari, Jammu by Joint Front.
