Construction of bunkers

Unrelenting firing and shelling by Pakistani Rangers across the LoC and IB has become a recurring phenomenon in five border districts of the State. It causes damage to human and animal lives and also damages standing crops besides causing much damage to residential houses or kothars. A large number of people residing close to the border are forced to leave their homes during Pakistani firing and shelling.
In view of very unstable situation created by Pakistan for our border civilian population, the Union Home Ministry has focused on building community bunkers all along the vulnerable sites of the LoC and IB. By way of experiment the Home Ministry had built some community bunkers in which at least 20 persons could be accommodated. According to our sources, the Home Ministry finds that this could be a successful project has given green signal the State Government to go ahead with bunker building progamme after identifying the sites where these will have to be built. The Government has decided to go ahead on its own in starting the bunker building work in district Rajouri which is one of the five border districts where people get dislocated owing to firing by Pakistani Rangers.
Building commodious bunkers with the facility of electricity and water and a dependable mechanism of evacuating civilians from the shelling areas to these bunkers for safety is a highly laudable idea. Maybe the total number of bunkers could be anything around 70 with each bunker’s constructing cost of about 5 lakh rupees. It is heartening news for the people who are living close to the LoC and are prone to recurrent shelling by the enemy. The work of construction of bunkers should be undertaken on priority because nobody knows when Pakistan will start firing and shelling.
