Cong pays tributes to Rajiv Gandhi

JAMMU/ SRINAGAR, May 21:  Pradesh Congress Committee and its frontal organisations  paid rich tributes to  former Prime Minister,  Rajiv Gandhi  to  commemorate his 27th death anniversary in a function organised at party headquarters here today.

Paying rich tributes to Rajiv Gandhi who was assassinated on this day, Mir described him as an architect of 21st century who brought about digital India & IT resolution in the country. He said that Rajiv Gandhi was a great statesman and a visionary leader and remembered his contributions for the country who sacrificed his life like his mother Indira Gandhi for the sake of Nation.
He lashed at the political vendetta of the BJP and Modi Govt against the Congress party and its leadership by misleading the people by twisting facts and history but asserted that Congress party is still strong enough to counter the propaganda and would stage a come back in future. He said Rajiv Gandhi lowered voting age for the youth to 18 yrs, brought Panchayat Raj System and reservation to Women, SC, ST and OBCs.
Senior leader Sham Sharma, while paying rich tributes to the great leader described him a great statesman. He said that the two years of Modi Govt  has failed to fulfill a single slogan and promise and it is exposed on its false hood. He also took a dig at the State Coalition Govt. as the two coalition partners are pulling in different direction and failed to deliver on any front but still sticking to power. He said Rajiv Gandhi brought about IT revolution, strengthening PRI and empowerment of Youth & Women in the democracy.
Former Minister Raman Bhalla  remember his contribution in IT and Panchayat Raj in the country. He described Rajiv Gandhi as a great visionary leader who was devoted to the cause of upliftment of  poor and weaker section and strengthened the secular values in the country. He prepared the youth of this country for the challenges of 21st century. He said Rajiv Gandhi fought against communal and divisive forces in the country and strengthened the secular forces.
Former MP and senior Congress leader  Madan Lal Sharma paid floral tributes to Rajiv Gandhi and praised his leadership qualities. He described him a visionary leader who brought about revolution in various fields especially in Panchayat Raj, youth and women empowerment in the country. He worked for strengthening of the secular forces and defeat the divisive forces in the country
Prominent leaders who paid tributes included Mula Ram, Yogesh Sawhney, Ravinder Sharma, Shabir Ahmed Khan, Rajnesh Sharma, S. Manjit Singh, Manmohan Singh,  GL Chalotra, Shiv Dev Singh,  Kirshan Bhagat,   Kuldeep Verma, Sheeshpal Singh,  Pranav Shogotra (President PYC), BS. Sambyal (Seva Dal chief), Maheshwar Singh, YB. Sharma, Krishan Lal Gupta, Ashok Gupta, Pawan Raina,  Pankaj Dogra, Sashi Sharma, Hari Singh Chib, Nadeem Niaz, Thomas Khoker, Sanjeev Sharma, Hira Lal Pandita, Gurdarshan Singh and others.
Many Youth Congress leaders  including  Satish Sharma and Pankaj Basotra  donated blood on the occasion. Several other functions in this connection were also held across the State at different district and constituency level.
Remembering Rajiv Gandhi on his 27th death anniversary, PCC Kashmir  in a function held at PCC office Srinagar today, paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister and recalled his selfless services and sacrifices to the Nation.
The PCC also paid glowing tributes to Late Mirwaiz  Moulana Mohd Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone on their death anniversaries  lauding their services & contributions  to peace and harmony in the State.
Senior Party functionaries, legislators and prominent party activists under the chairmanship of MLC  and PCC vice president GN Monga participated in the functioning and paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister recalling the selfless services rendered by the departed leader to the Nation.
Monga said that the best way to pay homage to departed leader was to follow his footsteps and work for unity, harmony and development of the country as he  even offered his life, but did not compromise on his commitment and conviction. He said Rajiv Gandhi was the architect of modern India under whose leadership the Nation touched the new heights in computer science, economy and overall development of the people from grass roots levels, Monga said.
Among others who addressed the meeting included MLC Mohd Muzaffar Parray, MLA Mohd Amin Bhat, Farooq Andrabi,  Surinder Singh Channi, GN Mir Lasjan, Zahid Husain Jan, Abdul Gani Khan, Haji Farooq Mir, Mohd Sultan, Shameema Iqbal, Irfan Naqib, GM Mir, Mushtaq Ahmad Khanday, Imtiyaz  Ahmd Khan  and others.
Former minister and senior Congress leader RS Chib today said that Late former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was the brain behind bringing IT revolution in the country while Narendra Modi’s politics and ideology is based on falsehood and deceit.
While addressing a function organized by Block Congress Committee Suchetgarh,  in connection with the death anniversary of Late Rajiv Gandhi today, Chib said that it was Rajiv Gandhi who brought big revolution in the field of Computer Science and Information Technology in the country.  He said Rajiv Gandhi was most visionary, humble and upright leader who remained popular among the masses. He was the man who strengthened the Panchayati Raj system in the country.
Launching attack on BJP, Chib said BJP used to allege that Congress has soft corner for militants and also caused discrimination with Jammu region but now when this party is in alliance with PDP in J&K, it has crossed all the limits of discrimination with Jammu region and showered favours on the anti-national and anti-social elements and demoralized the security forces.  The Jammu youth have been denied share in Government jobs and other fields. They are facing worst kind of discrimination this time. In fact, BJP leadership has let down the people of Jammu in every respect for its greed for power.  He said this Govt provided amnesty to the stone- pelters and the BJP stood exposed before the people.
Senior Congress leader and former minister, Ch Gharu Ram also spoke on the occasion.
