Cong, others condemn Pak shelling on civilians

JAMMU, Oct 24: Senior Congress leaders today strongly condemned Pakistan for heavy shelling in RS Pura sector and several other border areas of the State and paid rich tributes to martyred jawans in the firing.
Senior Congress leaders  Sham Lal Sharma, former minister and PCC senior vice president, Jhangir Mir Dy Chairman Legislative Council, general secretary PCC and former minister Manjit Singh, former MLA Prof Gharu Ram,  Shoba Singh  secretary PCC,  Gurdarshan Singh state vice- Chairman PCC Minority Deptt and Gajan Singh -Chairman Minority Deptt PCC Jammu province, besides other prominent leaders today attended the last rites of the martyred jawan Gurnam Singh and paid floral tributes to him and expressed sympathies with the bereaved family members.
Sharma and other senior leaders also expressed grave concern over the failure of the State and Centre Govt to provide specialized treatment to the martyr, who should have been immediately airlifted. The family members of the martyr,  have a great shock and grouse over the attitude of the authorities over the lack of adequate care in the hospital, as the jawan battled for  life for about 55 hours in the hospital.
The senior Congress leaders strongly condemned fresh heavy shelling by the Pakistan since Sunday in various parts of  RS Pura  and Akhnoor sector resulting into another BSF jawan Sushil Kumar attaining martyrdom and injuries to one jawan and some civilians.
Expressing serious concern over the escalation in tension on the borders, senior Congress leaders asked the authorities to ensure the safety of border residents and allot them plots at safer places.
President state unit of All India Jat Mahasabha Ch Manmohan Singh today toured border villages of RS Pura Suchetgarh, Kurotana Khurd with  Sarpanch Swarn Lal, where one Ch Sansar Chand had lost his cattle in border firing. He also visited village  Abdullian with Sarpanch Ch.Pappu, to the residences of  Ch.Romesh Kumar, Bodh Raj, Rashpal Singh, Ashok Kumar and Ajit Singh, all these who lost most of their cattle in Pak shelling  and firing.  These people are being forced to face the consequences of violations by Pakistan while they stand guarding the border with our Army.
Jat leader expressed serious concern over targeting  civilians by Pak army and demanded that people should be shifted to safer places. He condemned the act of Pakistani forces to target innocent civilians.
Ch Manmohan Singh said that Govt should formulate a concrete policy for the border area people who suffer every day in violation of cease fire.  Govt should ensure that the locals are insured against their losses, their cattle and agriculture, their families are safeguarded. He also demanded construction of bunkers along border.
He was accompanied by members of  District Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee; Harmeet Singh, Manmohan Singh, S.Manjeet Singh and Ch Dev Raj of Sai Khurd, Ch.Rashpal Singh, Ch.Chuni Lal and Ch Deep Raj.
