JAMMU, Nov 2: MIER College of Education organized a function to award certificates to the 5th batch of students of the UGC sponsored three month course on Human Rights and Values and inauguration ceremony of the sixth batch of the same course.
The chief guest for the function was Dr Mandeep Bhandari, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, while Dr Renu Gupta, Vice Chairperson MIER, Dr Adit Gupta, Director MIER, Dr NR Sharma, Dean Academics, HoDs of various departments, centre heads along with the staff members and students of the college were also present.
Dr Adit Gupta while extended a formal welcome said that the course is a path breaking initiative by MIER. He said that the Government of India is fervently inculcating awareness regarding human rights in all the sections of the society and what better way to achieve this than by enlightening the youth through such an educational endeavor. The course is all the more relevant in the modern context in which violation against the weaker sections of the society are escalating day by day, he added. A large number of youth has opted for the course indicating their eagerness to deal with issues pertaining to human rights and its violations.
Dr Mandeep Bhandari addressed the gathering and said that awareness of human rights is the need of the hour and values are the part of our Indian history. This subject must touch each and every mind. Being human, we should be more compassionate towards others. Every human being is entitled to some basic rights and they have to be ensured by every government. On their own part, everybody should be conscious of their rights and fight for these. He further said that we should also respect the rights of other human beings and we need to sensitize more and more people. He appreciated the role of MIER which is doing a commendable job by creating an awareness regarding human rights among the student community.
The students were awarded certificates by the chief guest.
The participants also shared their experiences during the course.
Monika Rathore, Course Incharge, gave a brief introduction of the course.
The program was conducted by Shria Abrol, Counsellor MIER, who also presented the vote of thanks.
