Leh, Oct 2: Hill Council Chairman Dr. Sonam Dawa inaugurated a weeklong Super Speciality Medical Camp by doctors from All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) at SNM Hospital today. The weeklong medical camp has been organised by Ashoka Mission Mehruali New Delhi and Ladakh Medical Social Service with the support of Health Department Leh. As many as 30 senior doctors consisting of Neurology, Neuro Surgery, ENT, Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Pulmonary Medical, G.I. Surgery, Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Nephrology, Rheumatology, Endocrinology, Haematology, Orthopaedics, Medicine, Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Paediatrics will provide free services to the general public.
Dr Sonam Dawa mentioned about the structure of Hill Council Leh and its functioning to the visiting doctors.
Ashoka Mission President venerable Lama Lobzang said that this time there are 30 doctors team from AIIMS including 21 professor with some of them are senior most faculty, Assistant professor and nurses to perform various surgery including knee surgery which requires many team. He added that this camp has been continuously and successfully organising in Leh for the past more than 20 years and people of this region are benefiting directly and don’t have to wait for months to get appointment for treatment at AIIMS besides such camp helps to local doctors to learn more from visiting senior doctors of AIIMS. He informed that similar camps were held in Kargil recently where 15 doctors team from AIIMS performed 21 knee surgeries successfully. In Leh District so far 80 knee replacement has been done successfully and all of them walking fine and this year nearly twenty such knee replacement would be done, said Lama Lobzang.
Deputy Commissioner Avny Lavasa, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Yangchan Dolma, Medical Superintendent Dr. Motup and SNM doctors were also present during the inauguration.
