Cancellation of talks bad news: Mehbooba

SRINAGAR, Sept 21: Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today said calling off the meeting between the Foreign Ministers of India and Pakistan was bad news as both the countries owed it to the people of the State to carry on the dialogue.
“Calling off meeting between India & Pak’s FMs is bad news for J&K. Both countries owe it to people of state & country to carry on dialogue rather than talking through media. Inspite of a historic mandate, it is media & not NDA leadership that is setting the agenda,” Mehbooba wrote on Twitter.
She said the abduction and killing of three policemen in Shopian district is proof that the Centre’s muscular policy is not working in the State and dialogue seems a “distant dream for now”.
“Clearly, with the rise in kidnapping of police personnel and their families, Centre’s muscular policy is not working at all. Dialogue, the only way forward, seems to be a distant dream for now,” Mehbooba wrote on Twitter.
“Three more policemen have lost their lives to militant bullets. Outrage, shock & (and) condemnation will be expressed by all of us on expected lines. Unfortunately, it brings no solace to the families of the victims,” the PDP president added.
