Boy dies of snake bite, people protest negligence of doctors

JAMMU, Aug 7: The family members, relatives and neighbours of a boy, who died today due to snake bite in Jourian area, staged a protest against doctors of Sub District Hospital, Akhnoor, at Nirdosh Chowk, alleging that negligence of doctors took the life of the boy.
According to police sources, a young boy identified as Akhil Singh (19) resident of Muthi, tehsil Jourian, was rushed to SDH Akhnoor this afternoon, after a snake bit him near his residence. However, doctors there referred him to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu for further treatment but the boy died on way at Patoli.
Later, about 100-150 people including family members, relatives and people of village Muthi gathered at Nirdosh Chowk, Akhnoor at about 6 pm and staged a protest along with the dead body, alleging that the boy died due to negligence of the doctors and medical staff of SDH Akhnoor, who neither provided oxygen cylinder to the boy nor send any medical staff with the ambulance.
Raising slogans against medical staff of SDH Akhnoor, the protestors blocked Nirdosh Chowk for hours and disrupted vehicular traffic on the busy road. They were demanding probe into the negligence of medical staff of SDH Akhnoor and financial assistance for the bereaved family. On getting information, SHO, police station Akhnoor, Inspector Pushpinder Singh as well as SDPO Akhnoor, Deputy SP Munish Anand, rushed to the spot and tried their best to pacify the protesters but all in vain.
Later, SDM Akhnoor, Sunaina Sharma, also reached the spot and on her assurance to hold a Magisterial inquiry into the incident and all possible assistance/compensation to the deceased family, protesters lifted the blockade.
