Blind murder case solved, accused held

Srinagar, Feb 1: Police today said it have solved a blind murder case of a woman killed last month by arresting the accused.
A police spokesman said that on January 21, body of a lady (name withheld) was recovered from Pokhribal area of Bota Kadal here. “Proceedings under section 174 CrPC were initiated and after medico-legal formalities, the body was handed over to the next of kin on January 22,” he said.
The police spokesman said during the investigation evidence revealed that the lady may have been murdered as the ornaments she was wearing before her death were found missing and there were visible marks of violence on her body.
“A number of suspects were called and questioned. During sustained questioning, one Sheeraz Ahmad Alai (age 27 years) of Mouchwa area of Budgam district revealed that he had visited the house of the lady on January 19 and during interaction had an exchange of hot words which led to a scuffle during which he strangulated the lady and took away the jewellery she was wearing.
“After committing the crime he disposed off some of the jewellery in Chadoora and proceeded to Jammu and on returning after some days, disposed off the rest of the jewellery.  The accused got two cheques worth Rs 79000 from the two persons as cost of the jewellery which was en-cashed by him,” the spokesman said.
On his instance the jewellery was recovered and the accused formally arrested in case under FIR number 01/2017 under section 302, 454, 380 RPC of Police Station Lal Bazar registered in this connection. “The investigation is being conducted and is in progress,” the police spokesman added.
