Bhalla distributes Rs 1.02 cr relief among refugees

JAMMU, Sept 22: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla has said that for upgrading the socio-economic status of the Displaced Persons (DPs) of 1947, 1965 and 1971,  Centre Government has provided Rs. 49 crore package besides the land deficiency compensation is also being distributed among the beneficiaries by conducting public darbars in their respective colonies.
This was stated by the Minister while addressing a large gathering of displaced persons (refugees) of Jammu region after distributing land deficiency compensation amounting Rs. 1.02 crore among 70 beneficiaries at a public darbar held at Gandhi Nagar, here today.
Provincial Rehabilitation Officer, Evacuee Property, Abdul Majid Wani, Deputy Provincial Rehabilitation Officer, Rajiv Magotra and other senior officers of Evacuee Property were present on the occasion.
Mr. Bhalla said that the Government has distributed Rs. 27 crore as land deficiency compensation among the displaced persons of 1947 by conducting public darbars in their respective colonies. He said that Coalition Government headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is fully aware of refugees problems for which all out efforts are being made to mitigate these in a phased manner.
The Minister called upon the left out beneficiaries to approach the Revenue authorities for Land Deficiency Compensation (LDC) so that the amount under norms fixed by the Central Government is paid to them after proper verification of revenue record.
Mr. Bhalla said that a plan of Rs. 1771 crore has been submitted to Central Government for early redressal of grievances of displaced persons.
The Minister said that instructions were issued to Divisional Commissioners of both the regions to prepare the list of Displaced Persons of 1947, 1965 and 1971 so that the compensation could be disbursed among the deserving persons. He asked the remaining families to complete the codal formalities of the Revenue Department so that they may also avail the benefits of Central Government’s announced package.
Earlier, Mr. Bhalla visited Rani Talab in Digiana and kick started construction work of lanes and drains, for which Government has earmarked Rs. 4.75 lakh. He asked JMC to complete the ongoing works within time frame by fixing interlock tiles and grating facilities over drains.
