Batote-Kishtwar highway remains closed for second consecutive day

KISHTWAR, Mar 18: Hundreds of commuters and passengers were stranded on 110-km Batote-Doda-Kishtwar highway which remained closed for the second consecutive day after 100 meter of road got eroded near Drabshalla area yesterday evening.
Landslide took place at Kuligard area last evening, leading to stranding of vehicles carrying essential commodities and passengers.
After getting information, concerned authorities reached the spot with men and machinery and started work to restore the vehicular movement on the highway which is the main connectivity to the Kishtwar.
“Batote-Doda-Kishtwar NH1B got closed last evening after heavy landslides and boulders hit the Kuligard area near Drabshala. Due to landslides and boulders, the 100 meters stretch of the road got washed away. The restoration work is going on but it will take about two days to restore the vehicular traffic”, said DTI NH1B Aftab Ahmed.
When contacted, DC Kishtwar GN Balwan said that the road would be restored for vehicular movement within couple of days. “I visited the spot and asked the R&B Department team to expedite the restoration work as soon as possible”, he added.
