DODA, Mar 17: Batote-Doda-Kishtwar National Highway connecting with Jammu and rest of the State was closed for vehicular traffic due to heavy landslides near Kulgadi Drabshalla.
The 110 kilometer National Highway (NH1B) was closed again today due to fresh landslides and heavy boulders at Drabshalla.
A senior police official said that the fresh landslides hit national highway badly near Drabshalla (between Kishtwar-Thathri) in the evening at around 6 pm. Some vehicles including an ambulance and CRPF vehicle crossing the landslide hit area had a narrow escape, he added.
He informed that whole mountain has caved in due to which hundreds of meters of road got washed away.
“Restoration work would start from tomorrow as there is no chance of initiating restoration work right now as shooting stones are still coming down”, he stated.
Due to the sudden closure of the national highway, the students of District Kishtwar, who were preparing for the KAS preliminary examination to be conducted by the JKPSC on March 19 got worried as they could not reach their examination centres at Doda, Jammu, etc.
The students demanded postponement of the scheduled paper.
