KATHUA, Dec 2: The people of Bani observed a bandh for half day today and all business establishments remained closed upto one pm in protest against the Government decision to construct 9.5 mw Sewa Ist Hydro Electric Project.
Expressing their resentment against the decision, the protesters said that this will create crisis in Bani township and surrounding areas. They said the reservoir of the project will be constructed two kms up streams of Bani town and water will be diverted to other side affecting the Bani area.
This way the tourism, drinking water and irrigation in the area will be hit and Bani will face serious water crisis. The business establishments remained closed in the town for half day. Later the delegation of prominent people of the area met SDM Bani, Ajit Singh and submitted a memorandum to him which was addressed to Chief Minister of the State.
They demanded that Darabal Power Project be taken up in hand instead of Sewa First which was conceived earlier by the Government. This project, besides increasing power generation will boost tourism and irrigation facilities and water crisis will also be averted.
They said that this is an environment friendly project  and Bani too will get the water share.
